Emergency Operations

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Division is responsible for supporting the statutory requirements of the Sheriff’s Office as it relates to wildland fire, which includes coordinating and insuring forest fire responses.  The Sheriff’s Office is also responsible for providing for Search and Rescue through coordination and support of 45 volunteers.  The division provides the Designated Emergency Response Authority (DERA) in unincorporated Garfield County and assists the County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team.  The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Division provides operational, logistical, and management support services to all public safety agencies throughout Garfield County.  We are also actively engaged in providing planning, preparation, and training for any emergency or disaster that affects the county.  The Garfield County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is also supported by Sheriff’s Office personnel, as well as several of our affiliated volunteer members.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Division is comprised of highly trained specialized units that provide the vital resources necessary for the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office to fulfill its public safety mission.  Support Services encompasses the areas of Emergency Management, Wildfire, Hazmat, Search and Rescue, Drone Program, Weather Events, Flooding, Event/Exercise Planning, and Back Country Patrol.  Our division has a number of specialized vehicles including a mobile command vehicle, off-road vehicles, and drones.
