The Garfield County Sheriff’s hiring process is broken down into six steps. Please know that we strive to have a stream-lined process.

Step 1: Application

The first step of the application process is to complete and submit an application. You can find the application here. The application is available on our website, or you can obtain a paper copy at the Sheriff’s Office.

Step 2: Testing

When your application is complete and accepted, you will be invited to the testing process. The test is a written test comprised of writing skills, grammar, basic math, and reading comprehension. We use the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.S.T.). We recommend studying for this test.

Step 3: Ride-Along or Informational Jail Tour

Step 4: CVSA (Computer Voice Stress Analysis)

You will be scheduled for a CVSA to assess integrity and truthfulness.

Step 5: Oral Board

Upon completion of the CVSA, you may be invited to an oral board interview. This is a formal interview with the Sheriff and his command staff.

Upon successful completion of the oral board, you may be extended a conditional job offer which indicates that our agency is interested in hiring you, pending the outcome of your psychological evaluation and background investigation.

Step 6: Psychological Evaluation & Background Investigation
