Meet Our People

To say that I’m proud to work for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office would be an understatement.  As I enter my 14th year of service as Undersheriff and my 24th year overall in Law Enforcement, I’m proud to say that our organization is firing on all cylinders. Hiring and employing people who are compassionate, progressive, and proactive not only benefits the citizens of Garfield County, but creates a fun work environment in an otherwise stressful job.

Regardless of a candidate’s initial interest, the possibility of movement through the Sheriff’s Office both laterally and vertically is abundant.  Sheriff Vallario stresses a performance-based reward system and we’ve created various career paths to support those who strive to achieve.  Our specialty units and training opportunities are second to none.

I’d encourage prospective applicants to do their homework and compare us to any Law Enforcement agency in Colorado.  I truly believe you’ll see a great group of Western Colorado folks focused on community safety and service at the highest level.

“Since the day I joined the Sheriff Office I’ve loved the fact that they were open to teach and enhance each and every employee. I joined the Detentions Division and then transferred to the Patrol Division, proving that there is a lot of movement within the Sheriff’s Office. I love working with and helping the residents of this beautiful county as it is the place I have called home for approximately 13 years.”

“Working for the Garfield County Sheriff Office has opened many doors for me. I started here at 18 as an Animal Control intern, transferred into the jail for almost 6 years, and then was sponsored to go to academy to become a Patrol Deputy. The opportunities for moving further in your Law Enforcement career are endless here. The jail has given me life experiences I could not have gained anywhere else.”

“Since I was a little kid I wanted to have a career in Law Enforcement and when I saw they were hiring here at the Sheriff’s Office, I saw the opportunity to get my foot in the door to jump-start the career I always dreamed of having. I started out as a Detention Specialist and have been given the opportunity to work to become a deputy and work my way through the jail. The Sheriff’s Office offers jobs that can help you jump-start your career and gain the experience to become a vital part in local Law Enforcement. Working in the jail has given me experiences that will help me further my career if I ever want to move up in ranks, or out to patrol. I have been given and I am offered the tools to become successful in my career here at the Sheriff’s Office and I look forward to even more growth and opportunity in the future.”
